NBI mourns passing of ex-director Alfredo Lim

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Sunday mourned the passing of former Manila Mayor Alfredo, who also served as the director of the agency from 1989 to 1992.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the NBI said Lim helped reform the agency during his time as director, and the changes he brought will continue to be part of the bureau.

NBI Officer-In-Charge Director Eric Distor, for his part, said Lim will sorely be missed by his colleagues in the bureau.

He recalled that the late mayor had kept coming to the NBI during anniversaries, Christmas celebrations, and other important occasions.

"In honor of Mayor Lim, the NBI will observe the Half-mast of the Philippine flag in the head office and all its Regional and District Offices across the country," Distor said.

Lim passed away on Saturday at the age of 90.

On Friday night, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno confirmed that Lim had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

In a separate statement, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar also offered his deepest condolences to the family and friends of the former mayor.

"Aside from serving as the local chief executive of our country's capital, Mayor Lim’s dynamic political career includes serving as the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and as a senator," Andanar said.

"He will be remembered for his dedication to public order and his long years of public service, particularly by the Manileños, for whom he had served as mayor, first from 1992 to 1998, and again from 2007 to 2013," he added.

Condolences were likewise conveyed to the family by Palace spokesperson Harry Roque, former President Joseph Estrada, and Senator Lito Lapid. — Erwin Colcol/BM, GMA News
