PNP takes Abu Sayyaf leader Susukan at Misuari home in Davao City

The Philippine National Police has taken custody of Abu Sayyaf Group leader Anduljihad "Edang" Susukan, PNP chief Police General Archie Gamboa announced on Thursday night.

Susukan was handed over to police at the residence of Nur Misuari in Yñigue Subdivision, Maa, Davao City.

The PNP said it initiated a negotiation after learning that Susukan was brought to Davao City to receive medical attention.

“The PNP immediately advised Mayor Inday Sara Duterte who assured us of her full cooperation and assistance, to ensure the peaceful handover and orderly transfer of custody to proper authorities,” Gamboa said in a statement.

The police served 23 warrants of arrest of murder, five for kidnapping and serious illegal detention, and six for frustrated murder against Susukan.

The Abu Sayyaf leader will undergo a medical check up before being turned over to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

In February, Susukan was rumored to have died following a firefight between Army soldiers and the Abu Sayyaf in Patikul, Sulu.  -NB, GMA News
