House active COVID-19 cases down to 8 with 34 recoveries -SecGen

The number of active COVID-19 cases at the House of Representatives has gone down to eight after 34 of its cases have recovered.

House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales made the announcement in a statement shared with reporters on Monday.

According to Montales' statements, the eight active cases in the House include the two new cases it recorded, one of which is an employee from the Journal Service who has been working from home since March 23.

The said employee went to her office on August 6 and experienced symptoms that same night.

The second new case, meanwhile, is a congressional staff who last went to the House on August 11 and met with her officemates, Montales said.

The said employee is not a close contact of any confirmed case at the House, he added.

The jump in the number of recoveries at the House coincided with the huge single-day increase in the number of total recoveries in the country reported on Sunday, which was 40,397.

As of August 17, a total of 164,474 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Philippines, with 112,759 recoveries and 2,681 deaths. -NB, GMA News
