Lacson, Go suspect something fishy over PhilHealth regional office's 'roof leak'

More senators expressed doubts on Friday over the roof leak that compromised some documents and computers in PhilHealth Region 1's office, hinting possible sabotage of ongoing investigations.

Senator Panfilo Lacson, in a message, said there is enough reason to suspect that it was intentional.

Upon learning of the incident, the senator said he advised the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission to seek assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to "immediately conduct forensics on the damaged portion of the building to determine if force was applied to cause the water leaks."

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, likewise, urged the task force leading the PhilHealth probe to ask for NBI's assistance.

"Ayaw kong pangunahan ang kalalabasan ng imbestigasyon, pero dapat malaman kung dulot lang ba talaga ito ng malakas na ulan, may kapabayaan bang naganap, o sadyang hinayaang masira ang mga dokumento," he said in a separate statement.

He also mocked PhilHealth for having such maintenance problems.

"Tinatawagan ko ang pansin ng pamunuan ng PhilHealth. Ang laki laki ng pondo ninyo, tapos hindi niyo mapagawa ang bubong ng isang opisina ninyo!" Go said.

"Ito rin ang rason kaya nasabi ko na kapag mayroong malilikot ang daliri, dapat putulin. Kapag sa korapsyon napupunta ang pondo ng bayan, ganito ang nangyayari — apektado ang serbisyo sa tao at kawawa ang mga empleyadong malilinis ang hangarin at nais lang maglingkod sa bayan," he added.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri also believes the incident may have been done deliberately to obstruct investigations.

The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission said it is already looking into the leak incident, given that PhilHealth Region 1 is under probe over its supposed inaction on at least 200 alleged fraudulent claims, some of them involving "ghost patients."
