Galvez condemns ‘brutal, soulless’ Sulu bombings

Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. on Monday decried the twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu that killed at least 15 people and wounded 55 others.

“While we are fighting to overcome the challenges spawned by the COVID-19 pandemic, these heartless perpetrators continue to carry out such brutal, soulless acts,” Galvez, chief implementer of the government’s pandemic response, said in a statement.

He added that the bombings will not deter the country from achieving its goal of breaking “the cycle of violence in Sulu” and bringing “lasting peace” to the island-province.

“These terrorists will attempt to sow discord, create confusion and break our spirit. They are terribly mistaken,” he said.

“The perpetrators of these dastardly acts shall be brought to justice and be held accountable for the crimes they have committed against the people of Sulu and all Filipinos,” Galvez added.

The Army earlier said that the first blast in Barangay Walled City was caused by a motorcycle bomb, while the second was set off by a suicide bomber.

The 11th Infantry Division believes that the terror group Abu Sayyaf was behind the attacks.
