No names being floated yet on next PNP chief -Banac

A week before Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa retires, there is no name yet being floated on the next father of the police force, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said Wednesday.

"Sa ngayon, wala pa tayong nakukuha na mga indikasyon kung sino man ang mapipili pero nasa kapangyarihan ng Pangulo kung sino ang kaniyang hihirangin na bagong PNP chief," Banac told Dobol B sa News TV.

Gamboa, who belongs to the Philippine Military Academy "Sinagtala" Class of 1986, is set to retire on September 2.

Earlier, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said he would submit a shortlist of candidates by last week of August. Año, however, is placed under quarantine after being infected again with COVID-19.

Banac said a senior police official with a rank beginning from Police Brigadier General is qualified to be the next PNP chief.
