DepEd assures teachers of salary increase in 2021 despite COVID-19 impact

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday gave teachers assurance that their salary increase will continue as the fund for it is already included in the 2021 national budget.

In a press briefing, DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said P475 billion is allocated for the personnel services in the department which include salary, allowances and other benefits for the employees.

“By next year meron naman pong salary increase. Ito ‘yung second tranche noong Salary Standardization Law,” said Sevilla, who attributed the increase of budget to the salary increase.

“Meron pong kasiguraduhan sa ating mga guro na naka-employ ngayon,” she added.

Compared to the 2020 budget, Sevilla said the fund for personnel services increased by 13.54% from P418.4 billion to P475.09 billion in 2021.

The education sector received the biggest chunk in the National Expenditure Program for 2021 with P754 billion allocation. Most of these funds will go to DepEd for 2021 with P606.4 billion allocation. —KBK, GMA News
