Cascolan takes oath as PNP chief before Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday administered the oath of office to Police General Camilo Cascolan as the country’s new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.

Cascolan was accompanied by his family during the ceremony which was held in Malacañang.

The Palace earlier said it expects Cascolan to uphold the rule of law, remove corrupt policemen and sustain the gains of the war on drugs during his term, which will be brief since he is set to retire in November.

"I will lead this organization along the footsteps of my predecessors and along the shadows of their leadership and building on what they have started," Cascolan said in his assumption speech on September 2.

"I will lead the PNP along with the vision of a highly-capable, effective, and credible PNP that provides better and more reliable, more efficient and more effective police services.”

Cascolan also said that the police force would not be effective without the help and support of the communities. — DVM, GMA News
