DepEd: Schools may accept late enrollees until November

Schools may accept late enrollees until November, Education Undersecretary Jess Mateo has said.

Schools may accept late enrollees until November, Education Undersecretary Jess Mateo has said.

“Tatanggapin sila hanggang November, ‘yung mga late enrollees,” Mateo said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Secretary Leonor Briones said that schools may accept late enrollees provided that the learner would meet 80 percent of the prescribed number of school days for each school year.

Late enrollees shall also  accomplish the quarterly requirements to pass the grade level.

Mateo said the total number of enrollment has reached 24.3 million as of Wednesday. This is 87.2 percent of the expected number of students based on the record last school year.

Of the total enrollment, Mateo said 22.2 million came from public schools while 2.02 million are from private schools.

Due to the COVID-19 threat, the DepEd decided to resume classes through blended learning, where students do not have to go to school to participate in classes to avoid possible transmission of the virus.

It also removed around 60% of the curriculum to adjust for the remote learning approach this coming school year, which was moved from August 24 to October 5.

The department has been preparing for ways to deliver education to students through self-learning modules, broadcast media, and the internet. -NB, GMA News
