Cascolan vows probe on alleged red-tagging of Makabayan solons by police stations

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan on Thursday vowed that they would look into the alleged red-tagging of members of the Makabayan Bloc by the police.

During the budget hearing of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, ACT Teachers party-list Representative France Castro raised to Cascolan the alleged terrorist tagging of the Makabayan Bloc by some police stations through social media.

She mentioned that some police stations in the provinces of Abra, Romblon, Leyte and Surigao Del Sur had supposedly been involved in red-tagging the progressive group.

"Related po ito sa sinasabi ko po sa inyo na  pagte-terrorist tagging po ng mga military, ng NTF-ELCAC, ito sa PNP rin po, ganito rin po ginagawa nila. Ito po ba ay talagang nakalagay sa policy ninyo 'yung terror tagging sa Makabayan Bloc?" Castro asked.

In response, Cascolan said the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group would continue to look into this allegation as he maintained that the police would always abide by the rule of law.

"With regard to the red-tagging or terrorist-tagging of the PNP, we will investigate this. As of now, there are no feedback given to us. Rest assured we will give you the feedback upon the results of the investigation," Cascolan said

He told lawmakers that red-tagging is not part of the PNP's police. He also told them to expect feedback from him in the next two weeks. KBK, GMA News
