Pemberton transfer to BI custody completed before noon —spox

The transfer of custody of US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton from Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to Bureau of Immigration (BI) was completed before noon Friday.

BuCor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said the transfer of custody was completed at 11:50 a.m.

"As of 1150H today, the custody of Mr Pemberton has been transferred completely to the BI," he said.

"There are no more BuCor officers involved in the custody of Mr. Pemberton."

The BI earlier said it will complete deportation proceedings against Pemberton after he is released from BuCor custody.

Pemberton, convicted of homicide for the killing of Filipino transgender woman Jennifer Laude in 2014, was ordered deported for being an "undesirable alien" three months before his conviction in 2015. --KBK, GMA News
