P1.6M worth of ecstasy tablets seized in Pampanga

The Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark has intercepted 988 pieces of ecstasy tablets and unidentified broken pieces with an estimated value of P1.6 million last week.

In a statement on Friday, Customs said the shipment, which was declared as “air humidifier,” arrived on September 1 from a certain Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom.

Customs examiners were able to uncover the misdeclaration upon non-intrusive examination.

Samples were taken for the conduct of laboratory testing and chemical analysis which confirmed the presence of methylenedioxymethamphetamine or commonly known as ecstasy.

The seized items were immediately turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for proper disposition.

District collector Atty. Ruby Alameda issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to R.A. No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

According to the BOC, this is the 18th shipment of illegal drugs that the Port of Clark seized this year with an estimated value of over P34 million.—AOL, GMA News
