Cascolan urges public to come up with ‘innovations’ during Undas

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging the public to adjust to the new normal in the observance of the Undas holidays amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

At a press conference on Monday, PNP chief Police General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said the police are also preparing guidelines after some local government units had announced that cemeteries will be closed during Undas.

"We are already preparing that... depende rin naman kung saan ang mga areas of concern natin with regard to COVID. Maganda talaga 'yung sa NCR, nagsarado na ng sementeryo..." Cascolan said.

"Try to come up with innovations. You can pray in your home already diba? Nasanay na tayo, 'yung iba hindi na nagmimisa pero nagdadasal," Cascolan added.

Earlier, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, chairman of the Metro Manila Council, bared that mayors across the metro have decided to close cemeteries from October 29 to November 4 as a preventive measure against the transmission of COVID-19.

Olivarez said the mayors wanted to encourage Metro Manila residents to visit their deceased loved ones before or after the observation of the holidays to avoid overcrowding in cemeteries.

The National Task Force against COVID-19 has been eyeing to recommend that the public be prohibited to go to cemeteries during the holidays. — RSJ, GMA News
