PNP chief Cascolan says Sinas deserves promotion; Danao being eyed as NCRPO chief

For Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Debold Sinas deserves to be promoted.

In a television interview, Cascolan was asked if he would replace Sinas following a series of reshuffle within the police organization. He said the performance of the NCRPO top cop would still be evaluated.

"Well until now there's no replacement. We have to evaluate him properly. The guy deserves also an evaluation and of course, a promotion too. He has done good things and that's all really I can say," Cascolan told ANC.

"I think he needs to be up to the Directorial Staff or a certain position that is fit most especially for him..." he added.

Further, Cascolan said he believes Sinas is an expert most especially with regards to training of personnel and recruits.

Mañanita controversy

In May, Sinas was criticized for his mañanita despite the prohibition on mass gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sinas had insisted that during his birthday celebration, guests observed social distancing. He even said some of the photos that circulated online, which drew flak from netizens, were old posts.

Despite calls to remove Sinas from his post, President Rodrigo Duterte defended him and said the NCRPO chief was a good police officer and an honest one.

Retired Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa had directed a probe on the incident. But he also said it was difficult to replace Sinas as the latter was leading in the implementation of quarantine protocols in Metro Manila.

The Philippine National Police's Internal Affairs Service filed a criminal complaint against Sinas and 18 other police officers and men over his birthday celebration.

Next NCRPO chief?

Meanwhile, Cascolan also admitted that Calabarzon police chief Police Brigadier General Vicente Danao is being considered to be the top cop of Metro Manila police.

"Yes, of course. He's doing good. He did his best and he has done good PRO IV-A, not even that, he has a reputation in the service, he is a very competent person too," Cascolan said.

Asked if Danao is also being considered to lead the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Cascolan replied: "Whether CIDG or NCRPO, it's good. But I would rather choose him for NCRPO because he is much better really in NCRPO." — RSJ, GMA News
