Martial Law still covered in blended learning curriculum –DepED

As the declaration of Martial Law marked its 48th anniversary, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday clarified that the topic remained in school lessons despite the reduced curriculum.

“As to the way Martial Law is being covered in the curriculum, I know that the ongoing curriculum review has been able to address this as it is,” DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said in a press conference.

“We make sure that the learners are provided an opportunity to have an objective perspective of what happened during that time,” he added.

San Antonio also emphasized that critical and basic competencies were covered in the curriculum.

Due to the COVID-19 threat, the DepEd decided to resume classes through blended learning, with students no longer required to go to school to participate in classes to avoid transmission of the novel coronavirus.

It removed around 60% of the curriculum to adjust for the remote learning approach this coming school year, which was moved from August 24 to October 5.

On Monday, the Philippines marked the 48th year since the declaration of Martial Law by dictator Ferdinand Marcos on September 21, 1972.
