Duterte ready to appear before Congress to discuss corruption

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he is ready to appear before Congress to discuss ways to end corruption through legislation.

“I want Congress to know that I am ready to appear there in Congress and discuss with them… how we can cut corruption,” he said in a televised address.

Duterte also said “Congress might want to enact a legislation,” stressing that he cannot fight corruption especially when there are people “resisting moves of government to improve.”

The Chief Executive earlier met with Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano to discuss red tape and corruption

Duterte also called on the public to report corruption directly to him.

“If you really want to have your complaints, you write me a letter and I will read it here kung sino ‘yung nakahawak ng papel nang matagal and maybe, if it is inordinately delayed, I will ask the idiot to sit here on this table tapos buhos ko ‘tong tubig sa mukha niya,” he said.

The President also revealed that he offered to resign because he had grown tired of corruption.

Duterte cited Philippine drug syndicates as an example of deep-seated corruption in the country.

“Alam mo, panoorin niyo ‘yung sine. Netflix... What is really appalling, I cannot seem to fathom, hindi ko maabot ang rason why the drug syndicates who are almost all over the world is run by people who are in prison,” he said.

“Dito sa Pilipinas, they (drug syndicates) do not bother about—because in the end they can buy their freedom and go out. Kung mahuli kita… I will hang you. I will not waste a bullet,” Duterte added.—LDF, GMA News
