Philippines’ COVID-19 cases near 392,000 with 2,092 new infections
The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 391,809 on Friday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 2,092 new infections as 15 laboratories failed to submit reports on time.
According to the DOH, the areas with the highest number of new infections were Davao City with 129, Quezon City with 100, Quezon province with 83, Northern Samar with 82, and Cavite with 80.
Meanwhile, 462 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 349,974, while the death toll climbed to 7,461 with 52 new fatalities.
There are also 34,374 remaining active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine. Of this, 83.6 percent are mild, 9.8 percent are asymptomatic, 2.4 are severe, and 4.2 percent are in critical condition.
Data from the DOH showed that 56% of the country’s intensive care unit beds for patients are available while 77% of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.
As of Friday, more than 47.9 million people have been reported to be infected with the COVID-19 globally and 1,222,441 have died.—AOL, GMA News
