2,058 new cases bring Philippines’ COVID-19 tally to 398,449

The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caseload increased to 398,449 on Monday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,058 new infections as nine laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The five areas with the highest number of new cases were Rizal with 103, Davao City with 81, Maguindanao with 81, Quezon City with 77, and Cavite with 76.

Meanwhile, total recoveries rose to 361,784 after 182 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.

The death toll also climbed to 7,674 with 108 new fatalities. The DOH released scant information on the new deaths.

“Moreover, 33 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths,” it added.

The remaining 29,018 are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 82.7 percent of which are mild, 9.4 percent are asymptomatic, 2.8 percent are severe, and 5 percent are in critical condition.

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier said, “realistically speaking,” that the bulk of COVID-19 vaccines will not arrive in the Philippines until the end of 2021 or early 2022.

“Iyan po ang nakikita natin kasi meron po tayong kakulangan sa supply kasi iyong mayayamang countries, kinuha na po ang majority ng production,” he said in an online briefing.—LDF, GMA News
