Death toll from Rolly rises to 25 —NDRRMC


The number of deaths due to Super Typhoon Rolly has increased to 25, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday.

The number of wounded individuals was 399 while six people are missing, the NDRRMC said in its latest situation report. The casualties were reported from Regions I, V, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA.

Of the fatalities, 21 were from the Bicol region while four came from CALABARZON.

Due to Rolly's onslaught, a total of 15 roads and bridges from Regions II, III, CALABARZON, V and Cordillera Administrative Region are still not passable.

The NDRRMC also said a total of 124 cities and municipalities in Regions V, CALABARZON, VIII and MIMAROPA are still experiencing power interruption while 36 cities and municipalities in Regions V, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA are having problems with water supply.

It added that 75 cities and municipalities in Regions CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and V have experienced network interruption due to the strong typhoon.

Damage

Rolly also brought damage to infrastructure in Regions I, II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, VIII, CAR and National Capital Region. The total worth of destruction in these regions has risen to P12,517,014,693.78.

A total of 134,639 residences have been destroyed too, the NDRRMC said.

When it comes to agriculture, the worth of damage was P2,987,914,906. This includes damage to crops, livestock, fisheries and agricultural facilities. The NDRRMC said a total of 65,897 hectares of agricultural land was affected.

Over a million individuals were affected by Rolly. So far, a total of P88,528,702.34 worth of assistance was already extended to the affected families across the country. — BM, GMA News
