NLEX toll gate barrier hits several cars due to glitch

Several vehicles fell victim to a glitch that caused toll gate barriers in the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to come down on cars while they were still passing through the gate.

According to Mariz Umali’s “24 Oras” report on Monday, among the affected motorists was Dominic Tiglao, whose car was hit by the barrier when he and his girlfriend were entering Angeles, Pampanga on October 17.

“Bigla siyang nag-close, ‘di pa ko nag-ko-cross. Buti na lang nakapagpreno ako nang maayos pero kumalabog po siya so may mga small dents ‘yung kotse ko at saka merong visible scratch na nando’n,” he said.

Tiglao asked the guard in the area to take note of the incident.

“Pagkakita ko doon sa logbook ng guard, pampito yata ako sa listahan. Sabi no’ng guard, ‘Lagi na lang siyang bumababa agad,’” he said.

NLEX management confirmed that they had a problem with their softwar at that time.

“On that particular day or maybe one or two days, if I’m not mistaken, na ‘yung software glitch na ‘yun was going on. That involved affecting the traffic control gate,” NLEX SVP for Communication and Stakeholder Management Romulo Quimbo said.

“Unfortunately may mga ilang customers tayong tinamaan e. But since then, we have already upgraded the software. We have corrected it. Wala naman kaming nakitang problem since then,” he emphasized. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
