1,639 new COVID-19 cases push tally over 415,000

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 1,639 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total tally of cases to 415,067, as eight laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

This marks the eleventh consecutive day where less than 2,000 cases were reported. Two duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

Davao City remained as the area with the highest number of new cases with 113, followed by Laguna with 76, Quezon City and Rizal with 75 cases each, and Cavite with 63.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries rose to 375,237 with 305 new ones while the death toll climbed to 8,025 after 27 more patients succumbed to the illness.

Of the remaining 31,805 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 84.7 % are mild, 8.1 % are asymptomatic, 2.4 % are severe, and 4.5 % are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, 55 % of the country’s intensive care unit beds for patients are available and 79 % of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.
