Robredo chides Roque for doubting Bloomberg study

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday rebuked presidential spokesperson Harry Roque for questioning the accuracy of the Bloomberg study showing the Philippines among countries getting lowest scores in COVID-19 resilience.

In her radio program, Robredo encouraged the government to be open-minded with such studies in order to improve on government response to the health emergency in the country.

“Sana maging bukas lang. Kasi pina-comment yata dito si Secretary Roque. Ang sabi niya hindi daw accurate, hindi daw ito accurate at pinaninindigan daw natin na napakaayos noong pag-manage natin ng COVID crisis,” she said, adding that the Palace official's response was "wrong."

"Dapat sana yung response, ‘Bakit tayo number 46? Saan ba tayo nagkulang?’” she added.

Bloomberg ranked the Philippines 46th out of 53 countries based on 10 key metrics, including increase in cases, mortality rate, healthcare system capacity, lockdown impact, community mobility, and agreements on vaccine supply.

In a Palace briefing on Thursday, Roque said he has yet to study the report even as he touted the government measures against COVID-19.

“Tingin ko parang hindi po accurate ‘yan sa aktwal na nangyari…Pinaninindigan po natin that we have managed COVID-19 very well in this country,” he pointed out. —LBG, GMA News
