Immigration employees banned from taking Tiktok videos while in uniform

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has banned its employees from taking Tiktok videos while they are in uniform.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said posting videos on the social media app Tiktok undermines the integrity of the bureau's official uniform.

He said it also violates a prohibition on the use of mobile phones and other gadgets while on duty and the BI's social media policy.

The BI commissioner said employees who defy the ban may be charged for insubordination and conduct prejudicial to the interest of the service.

”Our policy on the wearing of the BI uniform is clear.  As public servants and supposed model Filipinos, employees must proudly wear their uniform at all times, present a professional image to the public and observe proper decorum and good taste in all their actions while they are on duty," Morente said in a statement.

He also reminded BI employees that they must "observe proper decorum on social media to protect the integrity of the agency."

Morente issued the order after Tiktok videos of airport immigration officers surfaced. He said the "reckless" videos "belittle the image of the bureau."

Tiktok is a video-sharing site where users can create short-form videos, some of the most popular types being lip-syncs, dance, and comedy. —KG, GMA News
