DOH: 13 injured by firecrackers ahead of New Year


More than a dozen injuries related to firecrackers had been reported in the country ahead of the New Year's celebration, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday.

In a report which covers 6 a.m. of December 21 to 5:59 a.m. of December 29, a total of 13 fireworks-related injuries were recorded in different regions:

  •     National Capital Region - 3
  •     Bicol Region - 3
  •     Western Visayas - 2
  •     Central Luzon - 1
  •     Calabarzon - 1
  •     Central Visayas - 1
  •     Davao Region - 1
  •     Soccsksargen - 1

Eight of these injuries were classified as "blast and burn without amputation" while five were eye injuries. Most of the victims were sent home after treatment and only one remains admitted at a hospital.

The firecrackers that caused these mishaps were 5-Star, boga, Bong-bong, piccolo, baby rocket, fountain, kwitis, rebentador, and whistle bomb.

The records of injuries as of December 29 is 73% or 36 cases lower compared to 2019, the DOH said.—AOL, GMA News
