Gatchalian not ruling out 'inside job' angle in credit card hacking incident

Gatchalian not ruling out 'inside job' angle in credit card hacking incident

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Wednesday said he is not ruling out the possibility that an insider might be involved in the hacking of his credit card.

"I don't rule that out. In fact, I don't rule out na may coercion ito. I don't rule out na mayroon itong insider cooperation," he told reporters in an online interview.

"Puwedeng sa Foodpanda, puwedeng sa bangko, puwedeng sa iba pa. We need to investigate this," he added.

Earlier in the day, the senator said he discovered that his Union Bank credit card was used in unauthorized transactions worth P1 million.

Gatchalian said the bank immediately cut his credit card after receiving a report from him, and is now conducting an investigation into the issue.

His camp also plans to file a complaint with the police in order to trace the hacker by requesting more information from the food courier service used.

The senator said he will get to the bottom of the incident to ensure that other consumers in the country are protected from similar attacks, especially now that online transactions are becoming part of the new normal.

"Talagang lumobo ang online transaction—buying, selling, food, gamit, shopping. Marami talaga kaya nakita ng hackers na this is the way," Gatchalian said.

He added that he will not be paying for the hacker's transactions because these were identified by his bank as fraudulent. —KG, GMA News
