Duterte praises DPWH’s Villar for personnel revamp

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday backed the revamp of personnel at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as part of the government’s anti-corruption drive.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 in Quezon City, Duterte praised DPWH Secretary Mark Villar for complying with his directive. Villar attended the ceremony.

“I’d like to congratulate Secretary Villar for initiating a total revamp sa DPWH and there will be more to come,” Duterte said.

“Did I not tell you a little about a few days ago o months that I will dedicate the remaining years of my mayorship dito sa corruption? Talagang upakan ko kayo. Hindi ninyo naalaala iyon, pasensya kayo.”

Villar said last week that the DPWH would undergo a reorganization within the month. He also said 14 district engineers have been removed from their posts.

Last December, Duterte ordered DPWH district engineers who are involved in the corrupt practices alleged before the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission to vacate their posts.

Duterte also asked Villar to give him a list of all district engineers in the country after claiming that several of them worked in connivance with congressmen for corrupt activities.

“Iyan ang warning ko sa inyo. Be careful. Talagang mumurahin ko kayo in public. So be, be, be very careful. Huwag ngayon sa panahon ko,” the President said.—AOL, GMA News
