San Miguel’s Ramon Ang not interested in politics

San Miguel Corp. president and COO Ramon Ang is not eyeing an elected position as he dispelled rumors that he is eyeing a political run.

“Perhaps because of our company’s efforts to help our country, many are thinking I am planning to enter politics. I have no such ambition,” Ang said.

The San Miguel chief issued the statement following the formal opening of the Skyway Stage 3 project on January 14, 2021.

“All these projects we’ve completed, and all the new ones we’re about to start, are part of our long-term vision we first articulated more than a decade ago, when we said we wanted to be a true partner in nation-building,” he said.

San Miguel Corp. has boosted its donation drive as well as response and recovery efforts during the months-long lockdown in mid-March to contain COVID-19’s spread.

Such donation efforts of the company may have fueled speculation that its chief may be eyeing a political run.

But Ang stood firm that “SMC can do a lot to help our country, by investing in industries and sectors that will accelerate its growth.”

“We love our country, it’s the only one we have, so we should all do what we can to lift it up and help Filipinos. This pandemic has only made that commitment deeper and stronger,” he said. -MDM, GMA News
