Robredo camp tells Marcos spox: Tapos na ang boksing

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday slammed the spokesperson of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. over his remarks on the decision of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) against his election protest.

Emil Marañon, one of Robredo’s legal counsels, criticized the claim of Marcos’ spokesperson Vic Rodriguez that the electoral protest, in its strict legal sense, only pertains to manual recount and judicial revision.

Rodriguez had also said that their third cause of action—the annulment of 2016 election results for vice president in Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Maguindanao— could proceed independently.

The SC Public Information Office, however, said the tribunal, which is composed of all 15 Supreme Court justices, junked the "entire electoral protest.”

“There is no independent action for annulment of election results under the PET rules. There being none, a prayer for annulment is usually tucked as part of an election protest, as what Bongbong Marcos' election lawyers have done in his case,” Marañon said.

“Thus, the dismissal of Bongbong Marcos' election protest includes the dismissal of all incidents relating to his case, including his cause of action for annulment.”

Marañon said the Marcos camp could not accept defeat that they even wanted to “change” the PET Rules “just to suit his interest.”

“Masakit man tanggapin, but ang katotohanan ay tapos na ang boksing. No amount of lies can change this fact,” he added.

Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta said Friday that Marcos can appeal the decision. Marcos’ camp has yet to decide whether to file a motion for reconsideration pending receipt of the copy of the ruling.—AOL, GMA News
