Philippines’ COVID-19 cases now at 566,420 with 1,557 new infections


The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Wednesday that 1,557 persons have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the country’s total tally to 566,420, as six laboratories failed to submit data on time.

Twenty-two new fatalities also brought the death toll to 12,129.

Meanwhile, total recoveries climbed to 523,321 as 392 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The DOH noted that two duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 11 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

There are also 30,970 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, of which 86.5% are mild, 5.9% are asymptomatic, 2.5% are critical, 2.4% are severe, and 0.80% are moderate.

Data from the DOH also showed that 60% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are available while 78% of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

So far, the country has 62 COVID-19 cases with the more infectious UK variant, while two mutations of concern were recently detected in Central Visayas.—LDF, GMA News
