Galvez commends initial vaccination rollout vs. COVID-19

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Wednesday praised the initial rollout of the vaccination against COVID-19 in the country after two days of symbolic events in select hospitals in Metro Manila.

Galvez congratulated the Department of Health (DOH) for the continuous movement of the vaccines from storage facilities to hospitals since the arrival of the first batch on Sunday.

“Napakaganda ng rollout natin kung makikita natin. Maganda 'yung naging rollout noong first day ng six hospitals,” he said in an interview on ANC.

“Kahapon, binista ko 'yung MetroPac (storage facility), maganda 'yung pagkaka-package. Sabi nga ng Metropac, they were impressed, ‘yung American consultant, very proficient ang pagka-package,” he added.

According to Galvez, the coverage of the vaccination rollout has doubled from only around 200 to now 2,000 recipients.

“Ngayon, nag-deploy na rin kami sa Davao. And the Davao and Cebu will do their rollout today,” he said.

“Ang target namin ngayon linggo ma-dispatch na namin lahat ng mga doses sa different regions,” he added.

The initial rollout of the vaccine in the country will only cover frontline healthcare workers, as they are at the top of the priority list of the government in the inoculation program.

Galvez said there is a demand for vaccines from 202,182 recipients in Luzon; 51,140 in Visayas; and 94,540 in Mindanao.

Before, he said the demand for vaccine was low. According to him, the request has been increasing since the first day of the inoculation rollout.  —KBK, GMA News
