11,101 COVID-19 infections push Philippines’ active cases past 203K


The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 11,101 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total to 926,052, as nine laboratories failed to submit on time.

Due to this, the total number of active cases in the country rose to 203,710, this year’s highest.

Of this, 96% are mild, 2.9% are asymptomatic, 0.5% are severe, and 0.4% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 706,532 after 799 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 72 new fatalities brought the death toll to 15,810.

Twenty duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 16 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 67% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 48% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 85% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 64% of the mechanical ventilators are in use. -MDM, GMA News
