Galvez says gov’t eyeing to buy Moderna booster shots

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Wednesday said the Philippine government is considering to purchase Moderna’s booster shots for COVID-19.

“We found out that Moderna is developing a booster. ‘Yung booster na 'yun, puwedeng gamitin kahit na Sinovac o kahit na Gamaleya ang ating nauna," Galvez said during a congressional hearing.

(The booster could be used even for Sinovac and Gamaleya vaccines.)

"Ang balak namin 'yung P5 million instead na 'yung bibilhin namin 'yung vaccine, we might buy the booster already,” he added.

(We plan to use P5 million for the booster instead of the vaccines.)

According to Galvez, the booster shots could arrive in September or October of this year.

Earlier reports said the delivery of Moderna vaccines would start to arrive in June.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez has said it could be delayed because of the US policy on vaccine export. — RSJ, GMA News
