Son loses P15,000 in donations for sick father to scammer

A son who set up a donation drive on social media for his father's medical treatment lost over P15,000 to a scammer.

According to Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras" on Monday, Jayvee Buracan asked for help online, calling for monetary donations for his father, Ernesto's, medical treatment. Ernesto has heart disease.

(We do not have enough money for his medical treatment that's why I asked for help online.)

Many good Samaritans responded with help and Jayvee was able to raise over P15,000 for his father's medical treatment.

However, Jayvee was scammed by an individual who claimed to be donating money. The individual then asked for sensitive information regarding his mobile wallet account.

(I gave all my information because I thought the person was going to help me.)

The over P15,000 stored in his account later dwindled.

Jayvee reported the matter to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group.

PNP-ACG spokesperson Police Captain Mark Norbe said they had possible suspects and vowed justice for Jayvee and his family. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
