Eleazar eyes surprise inspections to ensure clean police stations

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Monday said he would conduct surprise inspections of police stations to ensure that their cleanliness and orderliness will be observed.

Eleazar, who formally assumed the chief PNP post last Friday, is known for being a disciplinarian who conducted random inspections even during nighttime when he held various leadership posts in the past.

When asked during a press brieng if he would continue these surprise inspections as PNP chief, he said, "Yes, I will."

He also said he expects other police commanders "from the regional directors down to the chiefs of police will do their own inspection."

"Actually ang ating IAS (Internal Affairs of Service) nagko-conduct talaga sila ng regular inspection every day and nakita ko sa report nila at least 1,000 of our police units were inspected by IAS," Eleazar said at a press conference.

"Sinabi ko sa ating Inspector General Attorney Alfegar Triambulo na bigyan ng focus itong cleanliness in the offices at kung kinakailangan mag-recommend kung sino ang dapat nating i-relieve na PCP," he added.

(The PNP's Internal Affairs of Service conducts inspections regularly and I saw from a report that it has conducted at least 1,000 inspections of police units. I asked Inspector General Attorney Alfegar Triambulo to give focus on cleanliness in offices and to recommend anyone who deserved to be relieved from his post.)

In a speech during his assumption last Friday, Eleazar said one of his priorities as PNP chief is to enforce an intensified cleanliness policy in police offices.

This, he said, would ensure that all police precincts and stations are clean and presentable in order to gain the respect and trust of the general public.

"Ta-timing tayo, hayaan na muna natin sila at mabigyan ng tsansang maglinis and I have heard, coming from other officers and learn from others na may mga naghihilamos na, may nagpipintura na just like noong ginawa noon sa NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office)," Eleazar said. --KBK, GMA News
