6,846 new COVID-19 infections reported; active cases near 60K


The Philippines on Monday reported 6,846 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total tally to 1,108,826, as five laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The Department of Health said this brought the total active cases in the country to 59,897, of which 93.7% are mild, 2.2% are asymptomatic, 1.7% are severe, and 1.3% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, total recoveries increased to 1,030,367 after 8,193 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll also rose to 18,562 with 90 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 10 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 40 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH also showed that 61% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 40% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

Further, 67% of the National Capital Region's ICU beds are utilized, while 47% of its ventilators are in use.—LDF, GMA News
