Lacson laments voters swayed by politicians’ campaign jokes, budots, TikTok videos

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday lamented the fact that voters’ were being wooed by politicians’ campaign jokes and trending dance crazes.

In an ANC interview, Lacson highlighted the need for massive voters’ education to cut this norm in the country.

“That’s the problem with our electorate, madaling ma-sway sa mga jokes, sa budots, sa TikTok, medyo shallow (That's the problem with our electorate, they are easily swayed by jokes, budots and TikTok. That's a bit shallow),” he said.

“There should be really a massive information campaign sa electorate natin but it will take generations before we achieve that,” he added.

Unlike in the US, Lacson said presidential debates are vital in shifting the support from one candidate to another.

“Dito hindi e, ang nagma-matter ay ang political advertisement then 'yung stage, kumakanta, sumasayaw, I would say it’s pathetic na ganito ang sitwasyon,” he said.

(Here, what matters is the political advertisement then the stage with entertainers. I would say this situation is pathetic.)

On the other hand, Lacson said the government cannot force a presidential candidate to engage in public debates, saying it’s the politician’s loss if he will not engage in these activities to present his platforms.

“If somebody doesn’t want to participate how can you force him? Can you bring him there?” he asked.

“If he doesn’t want to participate, that is his own look out. His programs for the government cannot be articulated,” he added.—AOL, GMA News
