4,487 new COVID-19 cases reported; active tally at 52,291


The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 1,154,388 on Tuesday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,487 new infections as eight laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the DOH,  the number of active cases in the country slightly decreased to 52,291.

Of this, 93.1% are mild, 2.2% are asymptomatic, 2% are severe, and 1.5% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, total recoveries climbed to 1,082,725 after 6,383 more patients recovered from the illness while 110 new fatalities brought the death toll to 19,372.

Twenty-four duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 64 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the Health Department said.

Data also showed that 57% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 39% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 56% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 43% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

On Monday evening, President Rodrigo Duterte called on the public to get their COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible or else risk getting sick or infecting others.

As of mid-May, more than three million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have already been administered. —LDF, GMA News
