3,083 new COVID-19 infections bring Philippine tally to 1,179,812

The Department of Health on Sunday reported 3,083 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, raising the total tally to 1,179,812, as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The DOH said the low number of new cases was due to the simultaneous updates being made in the COVIDKaya digital information management platform.

"Some case data from the (COVID-19 Document Repository System) were not included in the COVIDKaya and were not included in this case bulletin. This issue is currently being investigated and addressed by the COVIDKaya technical team," the DOH said.

It added that based on data in the last 14 days, the 3 non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 4.1% of samples tested and 2.6% of positive individuals.

Nevertheless, the DOH said that with the figures they do have, new cases brought the number of active cases in the country to 50,635.

Of this, 93.1% are mild, 2.1% are asymptomatic, 2% are severe, and 1.5% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries climbed to 1,109,226 after 6,756 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll increased to 19,951 with 38 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 10 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 25 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

"In addition, 1,478 cases were deactivated after being tagged by their RESUs/CESUs as being duplicates," the DOH said.

Data from the DOH also showed that 59% of the country’s intensive care unit beds and 39% of the mechanical ventilators are utilized. — DVM, GMA News
