6,483 new COVID-19 infections push Philippines' active cases to 48,109

The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 1,200,430 on Thursday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,483 new infections as six laboratories failed to submit data on time.

Due to this, the active cases in the country slightly rose to 48,109.

Of the active cases, 92.7% are mild, 2.2% are asymptomatic, 2.1% are severe, and 1.6% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that 4,335 more patients recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 1,131,942.

Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 20,379 with 210 new ones, the highest daily deaths recorded since May 4 this year.

Twenty-five duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 139 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data also showed that 59% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 38% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), 57% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 38% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The OCTA Research group earlier said the average number of new COVID-19 infections in NCR decreased by 23% to 1,023 in the past week.

On Tuesday, the group said the NCR has improved from being a high-risk area to a moderate-risk area for COVID-19.—LDF, GMA News
