Salceda: Duterte-Duterte tandem in Eleksyon 2022 not a ‘reasonable prospect’

Albay Representative Joey Salceda does not see a daughter-father tandem of the Dutertes in the 2022 national elections.

In a virtual interview with reporters on Thursday, Salceda pointed out that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte running as president and her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, running as her vice president, is not a "reasonable prospect."

"I don't see that although I signed a resolution... First you need geographical balance, it is a rational thinking especially that in our system, there's concentration on the powers of president that at least there should be geographical balance para hindi masyadong nako-concentrate 'yung national resources geographically," Salceda said.

"It is more reasonable that there will be a Duterte and somebody else team... I don't see [a] Duterte-Duterte tandem in 2022," he added.

Usually, the vice president is also younger than the president, according to Salceda.

The PDP-Laban national council has adopted a resolution urging the Chief Executive to run for vice president in the coming elections. The resolution also gave him the power to choose his running mate for president.

The Palace had said Duterte will run for as vice president if he receives a message from God.

Sara to run

In the same interview, Salceda reiterated to reporters that there is no doubt in his mind that Sara will be seeking the presidency in 2022.

He said alliances are already being built among political parties to support her candidacy. Salceda, however, did not provide further details when asked to elaborate.

The Davao City mayor, for her part, refused to comment on Salceda's latest pronouncements.

Salceda said Sara is "significantly unopposed" in the coming elections.

"If you look at ratings plus there seems to be... as an analyst, not as a politician, she will be significantly unopposed in 2022," he said.

"First 'yung 60% share ng Mindanao, I think it's pretty solid as bailiwick so that's one. Kailangan mo lang ng significant share ng Balance Luzon o NCR. Then I think that's a winning combination," he added.

Sara has topped Pulse Asia's recent presidential preference surveys.

In a recent visit of siblings former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Senator Imee Marcos to her, Sara admitted that they discussed politics, however, she did not elaborate.

Earlier, Sara insisted that she was not running for president and even asked her supporters not to start any campaign.

President Rodrigo Duterte also said before that his daughter would not vie for the presidential post. — RSJ, GMA News
