Leni still open to running for president in Eleksyon 2022

Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday said she is still open to running for president in the 2022 elections amid former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr.'s claim that she will run for Camarines Sur governor.

"Sa gitna ng maraming haka-haka, uulitin ko lang ang ilang beses ko na ring sinabi: Wala pang desisyon na ako'y tatakbong gobernador," Robredo said in a statement.

(Amid speculations, I will reiterate my previous statement: I have yet to decide in running for governorship.)

"Nananatili akong bukas na maging kandidato sa pagka Pangulo. Maraming konsiderasyon ang isinasaalang alang pero siguradong mag dedesisyon ako sa tamang panahon," she added.

(I remain open to running for president. There are lot of considerations in doing so, but rest assured I will make a decision at the right time.)

Robredo issued the statement after Andaya, in a report by the Philippine Star, claimed that Robredo has transferred her voter's registration to Magarao, Camarines Sur.

Robredo is from Naga City, an independent component city. Its residents do not vote for the Camarines Sur provincial government officials.

"I talked to her personally and she has intimated to me that she will run for governor and we have set benchmarks that she has to fulfill," Andaya said as tweeted by the Philippine Star.

He added that Robredo showed him her new national ID showing she has transferred residency to Magarao.

Robredo said any announcement for her political plans for 2022 will come from her.

"Sinisiguro ko sa lahat na ipapaalam ko kung may narating nang desisyon [Rest assured that I will inform the public once I have decided]," she said.

Robredo earlier said that the lack of resources is a huge concern in deciding if she will pursue a presidential bid in 2022.
