Nine dead, one missing, two hurt due to Dante, according to OCD —NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Saturday said the Office of Civil Defense has reported there were nine dead, one missing, and two injured due to Tropical Storm Dante.

The casualties were reported in MIMAROPA, Regions VI, VII, VIII, XI and XII.

These reports are being verified and validated, the NDRMMC said.

Meanwhile, a total of 22,839 families or 93,683 individuals were affected by Dante, the NDRRMC said.

The affected families reside in 279 barangays in Regions III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, VI, VII, VIII, XI, XII and CARAGA.

A total of 732 families or 2,753 individuals are staying temporarily in 50 evacuation centers.

More than 2,000 passengers meanwhile were stranded due to the bad weather from Dante.

The NDRRMC said 2,085 passengers were stranded in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Regions V, VI, VIII and CARAGA.

A total of 691 rolling cargoes, 46 vessels and 4 MBCAs were also stranded in the same areas.

This was after 40 sea trips were canceled. Twenty-six ports however have already resumed operations.

Eighty-one houses meanwhile were damaged in Regions VI, VIII and XI.

Total damage to agriculture was estimated to reach P86,110,147.60.

This damage was in Regions III, V, VI, XI, XII, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and CARAGA.

Infrastructure damage in MIMAROPA, Regions VII and XII and CARAGA, on the other hand reached P53,730,000.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units have extended P1,925,967.26 worth of assistance to affected families in Regions III, VI, XII, and MIMAROPA, CARAGA.

Dante has since weakened into a tropical depression.

On Saturday morning, it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility and was heading for Ryukyu Islands, Japan. —KG, GMA News
