Palace doubts public will reject Duterte ticket in Eleksyon 2022

Malacañang expressed doubt Monday on the claim of critics that the voters will reject President Rodrigo Duterte’s candidates in 2022, including presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque was responding to former senator Antonio Trillanes IV's statement that the President's daughter should indeed seek the highest elected post in the 2022 polls as it will give the Filipino public a chance to reject President Duterte and his family members.

“I'm afraid he can't claim to be the spokesperson of the people of this country. Malalaman lang natin ang desisyon ng taumbayan pagkatapos ng eleksyon, kaya dapat magka-eleksyon tayo,” Roque said.

(The verdict will only be known after the elections are held, and that is why we should have an election.)

Likewise, Roque dismissed the assertion of 1-Sambayan’s Howard Calleja that the PDP-Laban’s move of nominating the President as its vice presidential bet for the 2022 polls is a mockery of the 1987 Constitution and that the voters will see through it.

“See you in the elections. Bakit ba nila sinasabi na tagapagsalita sila ng taumbayan eh wala pa ngang limang porsyento sa surveys ang hindi sumusuporta sa Presidente (Why do they claim to speak for the people when those who are not supportive of the President are just at 5% or less as shown on surveys),” Roque argued.

“Baka boses lang kayo ng isang barangay (Maybe you are just speaking for a barangay not the whole country),” he added.

The President’s possible vice presidential run, Roque said, is being discussed because the nomination was made by the ruling party.

“He was nominated and he is yet to decide on it,” Roque said.

Roque earlier said that there is no scheme to perpetuate the President in power and that Chief Executive will step down as scheduled in June 30, 2022.—AOL, GMA News
