Galvez apologizes for vaccine delay in some LGUs

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Wednesday apologized for the vaccination delay in some local government units due to a lack of vaccine supply against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to GMA News’ Jun Veneracion’s report on “Balitanghali,” Galvez assured the public that the situation will normalize by June 14.

Galvez said the problem arose after the vaccines ran out, adding that the demand for vaccines is high across the globe.

He previously said that around 10 million doses are expected to arrive in the country this month while 11 million are expected in July.

However, he said that provinces outside the National Capital Region Plus — composed of the Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna — will be prioritized due to rising COVID-19 cases.

Galvez said 60% of vaccines that will arrive in June will be given to the provinces while 40% will be allocated to the NCR Plus.

At present, the Philippines has reported 1,280,773 COVID-19 cases, of which 1,202,257 have recovered and 22,064 have died. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA News
