Roque insists gov't infra projects improved traffic situation in EDSA

The Palace stood by President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement that the traffic in EDSA eased due to government projects and not due to COVID-19 quarantine restrictions.

Roque said that the presence of NLEX-SLEX connector and the bus lane gave people alternatives to EDSA traffic jam.

“That is the reality. That NLEX-SLEX connector was built so as to speed up travel and reduce vehicles plying EDSA. 30% of vehicles are now using the connector,” Roque said.

NLEX is North Luzon Expressway while SLEX is South Luzon Expressway.

“That (pronouncement of improved traffic situation) is based on facts,” he added.

EDSA is the main thoroughfare in National Capital Region, the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public transport has not been operating on full scale since the government imposed varying lockdown protocols in March 2020 to prevent COVID-19 transmission.—AOL, GMA News
