6,686 new COVID-19 cases lead to over 61K active tally

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country rose to 1,300,349 on Friday with 6,686 new infections as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), this pushed the number of active cases to 61,345, the highest since May 09.

The active tally included the 1,000 cases that DOH previously tagged as recovered but were later reclassified as active cases.

Of this, 91.6% are mild, 4.3% are asymptomatic, 1.7% are severe, and 1.2% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that 3,190 more patients recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 1,216,497, while 196 new fatalities brought the death toll to 22,507.

Twenty-four duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 127 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 58% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 35% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 50% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 32% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The DOH earlier warned the public against lying and falsifying documents about comorbidities to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
