PDEA-PNP guidelines to include penalties for non-compliant cops, agents — Eleazar

Cops and agents who will fail to comply with the forthcoming uniform guidelines for operations of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will face sanctions, PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar said Monday.

“I would like to stress that those who will not follow the unified rules will face sanctions,” Eleazar said in statement.

The PDEA-PNP unified operation guidelines aim to prevent another misencounter and miscoordination among law enforcers.

They were created following the fatal shootout between PNP and PDEA operatives at a mall along Commonwealth, Quezon City on February 24 which left five people dead — two PDEA agents, two cops and an informant.

A similar incident almost happened in Fairview in May.

PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva, said the unified operational guidelines could be completed before the end of the month.

Eleazar directed police unit commanders to make sure that their personnel are well-briefed and asked them for an effective supervision to guarantee that their personnel will follow the guidelines.

“Once these unified operating guidelines are finalized and released to our men on the ground, I need the efficient supervision by our ground commanders to ensure that the rules are strictly followed by our operatives,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
