Philippines logs 3,666 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in a month


The Philippines on Tuesday recorded 3,666 new COVID-19 infections, the lowest in a month, as 12 laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

On May 23, the Department of Health registered 3,083 cases.

The country's tally now totals 1,367,894, with 52,696 active infections, the DOH said.

The Health department also reported that total recoveries climbed to 1,291,389 after 6,810 more patients recovered from the illness.

Of the active cases, 91% are mild, 4.2% are asymptomatic, 2.0% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

A total of 60 new fatalities brought the death toll to 23,809.

 

Eleven duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 56 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 57% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 46% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 30% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday warned that individuals who refused to get vaccinated will face arrest.

Meanwhile, the  United States has announced that the Philippines will be among the priority recipient countries to get a portion of the latest 55 million tranches of its donated COVID-19 vaccine doses.—LDF, GMA News
