Philippines tops 10M COVID-19 vaccine doses administered


The Philippines has administered more than 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of June 27, months since the launch of its inoculation campaign in March, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

A ceremonial vaccination event to mark the 10 millionth jab was held at the Valenzuela Astrodome on Monday morning. 

According to a “Balitanghali” report by GMA News’ Ian Cruz, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III administered the country’s 10 millionth dose to 74-year-old Nieves Catacutan.

 

 

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said 10,065,414 doses have been administered across 1,231 active vaccination sites.

A total of 7,538,128 shots were administered as first doses while 2,527,286 were second doses.

The Philippines jabbed an average of 236,867 doses daily over the past week.

Out of some 1.6 million master listed health workers, the top priority group for COVID-19 vaccination, 1,669,660 have already received their first shot while 1,131,498 are now fully vaccinated.

Among the 8 million targeted senior citizens, 2,288,221 have received at least one dose while 672,602 have been fully vaccinated.

Out of the 7 million targeted persons with comorbidities, 2,566,460 have gotten their first dose while 710,846 have completed both doses.

Among the 35.5 million essential workers included in the fourth priority group, 829,662 have received at least one jab while 12,340 have been fully vaccinated.

The Philippines has also inoculated 184,125 indigents.

Secretary Vince Dizon, the deputy chief implementer of the government’s pandemic response, earlier expressed confidence that the country would hit 10 million doses administered by this week

The government aims to vaccinate 50 million to 70 million people this year. — RSJ, GMA News
