Black box recovered from crashed military C-130 in Sulu

The black box or flight data recorder of the ill-fated C-130 aircraft that crashed in Sulu last Sunday was already recovered, according to Marisol Abdurahman's report on Saksi on Monday.

Armed Forces of the Philippine chief Cirilito Sobejana said the conversations in the cockpit can be retrieved from the black box. “Malalaman natin kung ano yung magiging conversation doon sa cockpit.”

Citing information from survivors, Sobejana said the aircraft bounced three times upon landing. He said experts had shared that the pilot’s best move was to regain power so that the aircraft could fly and turn around to attempt another landing.

But the aircraft failed to regain power to fly higher with its reduced speed until one of its wings hit a tree, he said.

As of Monday, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the death toll from the crash is 52 -- 49 soldiers and three civilians. At least 47 servicemen and four civilians were injured.

Lorenzana ordered a full investigation into the incident.
